Pat Ahern, native of North Kerry, founded Siamsa Tíre, the National Folk Theatre of Ireland. ("Siamsa Tíre" translates to country of merriment and entertainment.) Through this group, he preserved and promoted Irish folk culture. He presented it on stage using traditional music, and song and dance. In 2009, he received an Honorary Fellowship at the Institute of Technology, Tralee, Co. Kerry. == Early life ==
A native of Moyvane, North Kerry, Ahern studied theology at St. Patrick’s College, Maynooth, and music at University College Cork, graduating in 1962. He was appointed to a curacy in St. John’s Parish, Tralee, Co. Kerry in 1957. There, he established St. John’s Gregorian Choir and he produced two major religious pageants "Massabielle - The Story of Lourdes" and "Golgotha".〔
